Often when a company gets a more established, true brand designers are used, with professional polling and color research and etc… employed, the logo is simplified. As a bit of trivia, the reason for the Salmon in the original Nokia logo design was that the first office was located on the edge of a local salmon stream. It is often these types of inward looking idiosyncrasies that plague the early logo design of a company.
