Often when a company gets a more established, true brand designers are used, with professional polling and color research and etc… employed, the logo is simplified. Indeed it is a very rare case that a corporate logo becomes more complex in a re-branding. Take a look at one of our favorite original logos that are so different than the current design; Nokia:
As a bit of trivia, the reason for the Salmon in the original Nokia logo design was that the first office was located on the edge of a local salmon stream. It is often these types of inward looking idiosyncrasies that plague the early logo design of a company. We at BusinessLogos have more than once talked clients down from having their pet, or spouse’s love of Unicorns applied to a logo that is supposed to appeal to a wide spectrum of potential customers and portray trust.
Here is a great article at the Huffinton Post that shows info-graphics of the progression of many famous brands over time! It even has a cool video to watch. To get totally current, we have an article at Paste Magazine about the 10 biggest brand redesigns of 2015, ranging from Google to Kentucky Fried Chicken.
