It seems the new University of California has not come off to rave reviews. The logo has been summarily attacked for banality, group-think, and schmoozing to name a few! One early viewer of the logo tweeted; “Whoever signed off on this UC logo should be forced to have it tattooed on their forehead for life.” This highlights the importance of having the design team truly familiarize themselves with the mission and outlook of the establishment they are branding. Also, with an organization this big a fair amount of polling goes into play, or should go into play when developing the logo concept. 2,000 to 5,000 people would have been polled for a design this big at a classic ad agency, so this is a bit surprising…but we have noticed a trend to overlook some of the more traditional aspects of logo development in recent times. Make sure your design team understands your business before starting your logo design.
